WELCOME TO COOPER BEADS
Written by Ray Cooper

“Welcome to Cooper Beads, the on-line home of    borosilicate and soft glass beads and marbles, and PMC® jewelry by Ray Cooper, a flameworker and Certified PMC® artist from Blue Hill, Maine. (That's me at work in the glass part of my studio.)
If you are vacationing on the beautiful Downeast Maine coast, please stop by and visit my studio. Since it is a working studio, and not a shop, I am open by appointment only. Please call ahead to make sure I am home and I will give you directions. I am a bit off the beaten path, but the trip is worth it. This is a beautiful part of the country.  Also check out my schedule (under SHOW SCHEDULE) of shows to see when I will be in your area. Or you can visit one of the fine bead shops and galleries that carry my glass and jewelry. For a listing of shops (and lots of other other interesting things) check under LINKS. (If you currently use or carry my glass or PMC® and would like to be listed, drop me a line- see CONTACT US.)
Do you want to learn how to work with PMC® (Precious Metal Clay), the wonderful silver in the form of a clay, or the new BRONZclay™?   Check the class article below for information on my next classes, and look under TEACHING SCHEDULE to see my entire year's teaching schedule, including all of my Innovative Beads Expo (IBE) shows throughout the Northeast. See the Teaching Schedule. Check back for updates as I am always adding new dates.   Thanks for looking.

Show news and other items of interest

Well, the Garden Fair at Coastal Maine Botanical Garden (CMBG) is over and it was fairly successful, despite atrocious weather (it rained so hard on Friday that the fair was shut down early because the road to the garden was closed, due to being flooded! Still I did fairly well on Saturday and Sunday. Especially pleasing to me was the reception of my new marbles, especially my vortex marbles. I will be making some new ones soon, and will try to get some pictures up here.
A new gallery has begun carrying my marbles. You can find them at the Hutton Gallery in Deer Isle.(Check out her website in my LINKS) The gallery is run by jewelry artist Susan Hutton and features the work of many local artists. It is located at 89 North Deer Isle Road (also known as state highway 15) just north of Deer Isle village. Stop by and check out my work some time when you are in the area. (It is a good stop if you are on your way out to the Haystack School, one of my favorite places on the planet.)
As of now, I will not be doing any more shows until October. (I am cutting back a lot this year on shows.) I will be at two Craftproducer shows there- first Manchester in southern Vermont on October 2-4, and then a week later in northern Vermont at Stowe from October 9-11. These are high quality craft shows featuring work in all craft media. I hope to have plenty of new work by these shows. Please stop by and see me at one of them. It is worth the trip.
Lastly, I will be attending a glass bead class at Haystack with Kate Fowle Meleny from August 2-14, so will not be in the studio on those dates. Kate is a wonderfully creative bead maker and I am looking forward to getting many new ideas from her, including how to do electroforming of metals on glass.

PMC and BRONZclay™ class news
Written by Ray Cooper
Upcoming PMC®classes include an Introduction to PMC®class at The Beaded Moose in Bangor, ME on June 27 (this class has been postponed until July 18) , and at the Innovative Beads Expo (IBE) shows Fishkill, NY on Saturday, July 11 and Concord, NH on Saturday, July 25. These three classes are all for beginners or people with limited PMC® experience. Just bring yourself and your curiosity and I will supply the rest.
I will also be offering more advanced classes at the two IBE shows. In Fishkill, I will be offering a PMC®Rings class on July 12, and in Concord I will be offering a Hollow Forms in PMC® class on July 26.   Both of these are Sunday classes. These classes are not for beginners and require a minimum of my beginners class or equivalent for background. For information on cost and how to register for the classes, see my TEACHING SCHEDULE, There you will find website listings for IBE and The Beaded Moose as well as phone numbers. You can also find contact information on each of them under my LINKS. Hope to see you at one of these interesting and informative classes. If you want to read reviews of my classes, go to the PMC Guild website (also listed in my LINKS) and look under classes. All my classes for the year are listed there as well, as are reviews of my past classes by former students.
